The Walks Series
In the ‘Walks’ series, a deeply romantic notion of the photograph as repository of experience is explored through a gathering of light and layering of time. The walks are made with the shutter open and the duration of the movement through and along a path is recorded photographically. The resultant images are somewhere between the experience of photography and painting and invite the viewer to slow down and move towards a state of poetic reverie and contemplation. The Walk No 8 (Pompidou Centre) 2005 was made whilst riding the five stage escalators. This series records each stage individually whereas the last diptych, Walk No 9 (Pompidou Centre) 2006, depicts the whole journey, both up to the top and back down again. Time and motion are compressed and overlaid to leave an impressionistic trace of the journey. |
